Real Estate Property Taxes and Vehicle Registrations
The Treasurer’s Office consists of two departments: Tax & Auto. The tax department collects the real estate taxes. Taxes become due July 1st of each year and are payable in two installments. If the first installment is not paid before October 1st, a penalty of 1 ½% per month rounded to the nearest dollar is added to the tax. A penalty is not attached to the second installment until April 1st. As of July 1, 1991 we have been able to accept partial payments. Please contact us for more information. The annual tax sale is held the third Monday in June at 10:00 A.M., unless otherwise advertised. For redemption under tax sale, 2% interest per month rounded to the nearest dollar is added to the sum paid by the tax purchaser and all subsequent taxes paid by him/her under the sale. Redemptions are made at our office. There is a $10.00 fee for the redemption certificate. The redemption must be paid with "guaranteed funds". The auto department is in charge of vehicle licensing. We issue titles, liens, license plates and renewal stickers for autos, trucks, truck-tractors, motorcycles and trailers. Titles (having a $15.00 fee) must be transferred within 15 days of purchase to avoid a $10.00 title penalty. License plates can be renewed the month of or month after your birth month sticker. Penalty of 5% of license fee rounded to the nearest dollar with a $5.00 minimum will be added on the first of each month when delinquent. Out of state move-ins will have to bring in their title, registration and odometer reading.
